The Benefits of Running

By Peter Green

I'm a huge advocate of running. I know that it takes some effort and energy to make it happen, and I'm usually the first person to prefer just being lazy and relaxing in bed with a book or watching TV.

Even though it's a nuisance sometimes, the one that that I've realized is that I'm always glad that I ran once the run is over. I think this says a lot.

I always feel great once I'm done with any and all runs, and I've come to realize that the state of the body has nothing to do with an unwillingness to run. It's all a psychological thing that just requires discipline.

Running is great for both the body and mind. Not only is it a great means of burning calories and keeping our weight down, but the process of running releases endorphins to the rest of the body, making you feel naturally happy after a run.

Additionally, I've found that it's easier for me to focus on work when I run. I sleep better at night too.

No one likes the idea of getting up to go for a grueling run, especially if they're tired. Still, there's a clear benefit to running every day and you should absolutely consider doing it for the reasons listed above.

Everyone does different things to make sure that his or her run will be as pleasant as possible. Some people load up an mp3 player and listen to their favorite music. Others might even watch their favorite TV shows while they're in the middle of a run on a treadmill.

It's also important to set personal goals as you run. While some people are perfectly content with maintaining the same speed, I've always found that I get the maximum benefit whenever I'm striving to achieve new fastest times.
